Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton appears to have heard what his ex-teammate had to say about him.

In a post to his Instagram Story on Saturday, Newton seemingly responded to Buffalo Bills wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin’s comments this weekend dissing him. The former MVP said that he did not want to engage in a back-and-forth with Benjamin, preferring to just stick to doing work. Here is the video, per Matt Harris of WSOC-TV in Charlotte.

The 27-year-old Benjamin, who was teammates with Newton in Carolina for the first three years of his NFL career, was critical of the three-time Pro Bowl signal caller in an interview with The Athletic. He said that the Panthers were “a bad fit” for him and pointed to Newton’s inaccuracy as a passer.

For all of his physical gifts, Newton does indeed draw frequent criticism for his low completion percentage and high interception rate. But Benjamin was also plagued by injuries and effort issues during his time in Carolina, so it’s doubtful that Newton’s performance was the only thing holding him back.
