Cam Newton suggests he's Patriots' starting QB in Instagram post?

The biggest question surrounding the Patriots this summer has been whether or not Cam Newton would be New England's starting quarterback come Week 1.

However, Newton might have just dropped a hint about the quarterback competition in an Instagram post before Sunday's preseason finale against the New York Giants.

The former MVP posted a series of photos, but the third picture is the most interesting one. "QB #1" is written on the image with an arrow pointing to the No. 1 on Newton's jersey.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has yet to name a Week 1 starter after another impressive week of practice from rookie quarterback Mac Jones. However, Newton might obviously know something that the rest of us don't.

Jones had a significant opportunity to thrive over the past week with Newton sidelined because of COVID-19 protocols. He also got more reps upon Newton's return to the field.

Newton has started both of New England's preseason games thus far, and he is the obvious choice to start next month. However, Jones has undoubtedly made Belichick at least think about starting him.

Sunday night's preseason finale against the Giants could be very telling for the quarterback competition. A solid performance from Newton should be enough to secure him the starting job.
