Can Brandin Cooks be Amari Cooper's true replacement in Dallas?

The Cowboys might have realized that trading Amari Cooper was a mistake. Consequently, they found a potential replacement after one season without the former Alabama standout.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Houston on Sunday morning traded wideout Brandin Cooks to Dallas for a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round pick.

After Dallas dealt four-time Pro Bowler Cooper to Cleveland last March, the Cowboys fell from third in receiving yards in 2021-22 to 18th in 2022-23. Cooks, 29, provides the kind of production that could essentially replace Cooper's after the fact.

In nine seasons, Cooks has recorded 49 receiving TDs and 8,616 receiving yards -- 11th among active wideouts. On the flip side, Cooper, a nine-year veteran, has tallied 8,236 receiving yards and 55 receiving TDs.

Cook's skill-set is proven to transfer across multiple systems, too. He has played for four teams (Saints, Patriots, Rams and Texans) and managed to have a 1,000 receiving-yard season with each.

Additionally, Cooks' speed will play anywhere. According to Cowboys writer Patrik Walker, he runs a 4.33 40-yard dash. His consistency as a deep threat over the course of almost a decade impresses.

The Cowboys wide receiving corps with the addition of Cooks could be a multi-faceted arsenal, creating major problems for defenses.

Even before Dallas added Cooks, defenses had to contend with Pro Bowl WR CeeDee Lamb. The 23-year-old Lamb produced career highs in receiving yards (1,359) and receptions (107) this past season.

An offense with more reliable targets (and Cooks is nothing if not reliable when healthy) may help QB Dak Prescott's efficiency and reduce his interception total. In 12 starts this past season, he threw a career-high 15 interceptions and posted a 91.1 passer rating, the second lowest of his career.

Just how much Cooks is able to re-energize Dallas' offense remains to be seen, but he arrives to the Cowboys having cost little and the team's realistic Super Bowl window is not going to last forever.
