The Las Vegas Raiders overall have a very young defensive unit entering this season. Maxx Crosby, Chandler Jones, and Marcus Epps are all vital veteran leaders for the Raiders this season.

However, there is a safety on the Raiders entering his third season, and he is looking to improve from last NFL season.

Trevon Moehrig is entering his third season as a starting safety for the Raiders, who selected him with the 43rd overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Moehrig has proven to be a productive safety in the NFL. He started every game in his rookie season and even appeared in a Wild Card game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He finished the game totaling six pass deflections and an interception. He also finished the game with a Pro Football Focus coverage of 77.7.

Those statistics slightly declined last season as he learned defensive coordinator Patrick Graham's new defensive scheme and dealt with injuries.

Despite last season, the former Jim Thorpe Award winner still is a very talented starting defensive back for the Raiders.

This will be his first season paring alongside free agent signee Marcus Epps. The two could be a solid defensive-back duo for the Raiders this upcoming season.

Marcus Epps talked to the media earlier this offseason about how the new duo has been getting closer as teammates.

"He's a great teammate," Epps said. "We're just getting to learn each other, learning how each other plays. The time we've been having together has been good. We've been bonding, we've been working hard. So, that's what we're going to keep doing."

Moehrig also talked to the media earlier this offseason about having a better 2023-24 NFL season.

"I've been feeling better, more confident just with myself within the defensive scheme," Moehrig said. "So, we're definitely trying to do that and get our hands on the football."

It will be very exciting to see Moehrig take the next step on being one of the main starting defensive backs for the Raiders and also see if he can genuinely improve his game for this upcoming 2023-24 NFL season.

The Las Vegas Raiders open training camp for the entire team on July 25, 2023.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
