Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury compares Kyler Murray to Patrick Mahomes

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury knows a thing or two about working with high-caliber quarterbacks.

When he rehashed Kyler Murray's impressive performance in Sunday's  34-33 win over the Minnesota Vikings, Kingsbury compared him to one of the league's finest.

"I mean, that's like coaching Patrick (Mahomes)," Kingsbury said via Albert Breer of MMQB, recalling when he coached Mahomes at Texas Tech. "You give him the green light when you got a cat like that that can do those type of things."

The comment was aimed primarily at a fourth-down conversion Murray made to Christian Kirk late in Sunday's game that led to the Cardinals kicking the game-winning field goal.

"That's one of his favorite play calls that we had in," Kingsbury continued, "and he and Christian Kirk just got on the same page and extended it and took it high."

Murray ended the day with 29 completions on 36 attempts for a whopping 400 yards and three touchdowns. Despite also throwing two interceptions — one pick-six late in the third quarter — the third-year QB appears to be finding his stride and honing the ability to overcome late-game obstacles.

With the win, the Cardinals move to 2-0 on the season, sitting in a three-way tie with the 49ers and the Rams atop the NFC West. Next, they will fly to Jacksonville to take take on the befuddled Jaguars in Week 3.
