Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury still on COVID-19 list ahead of Texans game

The 6-0 Arizona Cardinals would be without their head coach for the second straight game if they had to face the 1-5 Houston Texans on Friday.

That may still be the case come this Sunday.

Kliff Kingsbury tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of last Sunday's blowout win at the Cleveland Browns, and Darren Urban noted for the Cardinals' website Kingsbury was still away from the team as of Friday. Kingsbury must remain asymptomatic and return two negative coronavirus tests 24 hours apart to return to work before completing the required 10-day isolation period, making his status for Sunday's showdown questionable, at best, as the weekend approaches.

Quarterbacks coach Cam Turner also tested positive last week but was back on the practice field. Two-time First-Team All-Pro Chandler Jones is still on the reserve/COVID-19 list but was in the facility.

Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers split head-coaching duties in Cleveland last Sunday.

"The plan we have on that (offensive) side of the ball is Kliff's plan," Joseph told reporters. "The virtual stuff, it's like he's in the room with us. So nothing has changed from a prep standpoint. If (Kliff) comes up (available) Saturday or Sunday, he can definitely coach the game."

A plus for Kingsbury is that Arizona is hosting Houston, meaning he could potentially be cleared without having to worry about traveling for the game.
