Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill: Trading QB Kyler Murray is 'not happening'

The Arizona Cardinals and two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray haven't yet put pen to paper on an extension he clearly wants to receive this offseason, but all involved are publicly making it known they're not close to a messy divorce.

Earlier on Thursday, Cardinals general manager Steve Keim told reporters there is "zero chance" Murray gets traded ahead of the 2022 NFL season, and Murray took to Twitter to voice his approval of that message. According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic (h/t Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk), Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill has also declared the star signal-caller is not available one week before the draft opens next Thursday night.

"Yeah, that’s not happening," Bidwill said of possibly trading Murray. "There’s just too much outside noise that people listen to. We understand that’s just part of what goes on these days with social media. It’s just not the case."

Barring a surprising development, the Cardinals are expected to exercise the fifth-year option included in Murray's rookie contract, a decision that would keep the 24-year-old's rights attached to his current employer through at least the 2023 campaign but that also wouldn't prevent the two sides from discussing an extension throughout the summer.

As long as Bidwill is prepared to "pay the man" before Murray takes his next snap in a meaningful game, keeping the 2019 first overall draft choice happy and on the roster shouldn't be an issue.
