Cardinals QB Kyler Murray (ankle) hopeful to play Sunday vs. Panthers

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury remarked last week he felt "comfortable" with quarterback Kyler Murray playing even if Murray didn't practice all week as he worked to recover from the sprained left ankle he suffered in the previous game.

Murray was ultimately ruled out for this past weekend's win over the San Francisco 49ers but said Wednesday he hopes to be on the field for this coming Sunday's matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

"I think it's day by day," Murray explained about the ankle, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. "I think we've got a great plan. I feel way better than I did when I talked to you last time, so, I think that's a plus and I'm excited."

Murray didn't practice Wednesday as Arizona completed a walk-through but later told reporters he thinks he has "made crazy strides as far as in a positive direction since it happened" heading into upcoming practice sessions.

Journeyman veteran Colt McCoy filled in for Murray this past Sunday and completed 22-of-26 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

Meanwhile, Panthers head coach Matt Rhule confirmed earlier in the day that quarterback Sam Darnold will miss roughly four-to-six weeks with an incomplete fracture of the shoulder scapula in his throwing arm. Former XFL star P.J. Walker is set to start for Carolina in Arizona.
