We are officially five weeks into the 2023 offseason, and based on various analyst rankings, the Arizona Cardinals are doing a poor job of assembling a competitive roster for next season.

From Dan Hanzus at NFL.com, the Cardinals have found a way to drop from an already dreadful 29th to dead last at 32nd. At least things can’t get any worse?

Hanzus makes fun of a Cardinals team website that was discussing now-retried J.J. Watt and his crush on pop singer Taylor Swift.

“You know things are tough for the Cardinals when the top team headline on a competing website reads “J.J. Watt raves about Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ concert.” Watt is fawning over pop stars in retirement, Kyler Murray could miss a significant portion of the upcoming season and DeAndre Hopkins might have already played his final game in the desert.”

Cody Benjamin over at CBS Sports at least cut the Cardinals a little bit of slack, as they were not ranked at the dead bottom, just extremely close to it.

Benjamin gave the Cardinals a D grade, crediting the fact that Michael Bidwill seems to be on a budget so far this offseason.

“They must be saving their money for something. It’s understandable they didn’t wanna pay massive bucks to keep DL Zach Allen, or bid for CB Byron Murphy coming off injury, but that means Jonathan Gannon’s inherited “D” is still devoid of many building blocks.”

While Arizona has pretty much built a whole new coaching staff starting from the front office all the way down to the coordinators, not much has been done when it comes to the actual players.

The Cardinals have lost arguably two of their best free agents in Zach Allen and Byron Murphy, meanwhile, no notable signings have been made.

They do have a third-overall pick in the draft coming up in less than a month.  Now, if they managed to mess that one up, then there is not much else to say.

With five months until opening weekend, the Cardinals currently have the worst odds to win the Super Bowl at +20000 and +2000 to win the NFC West, per DraftKings Sportsbook.
