Cardinals want WR Larry Fitzgerald back if he wants to play?

Future Hall of Famer and 11-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald remains a free agent and recently told ESPN's Rachel Nichols he hasn't yet decided on what he wants to do as it pertains to the 2021 NFL season and the conclusion of his storied career.

NFL Media's Jim Trotter reported Tuesday that's still the case but added that the Arizona Cardinals want Fitzgerald back for the upcoming campaign "if he wants to play" this fall:

"They like the energy he brings to the franchise. They like his presence in the locker room," Trotter explained. "And here's the key part. They like his ability to make catches in crucial situations."

Trotter also said the Cardinals have an opening for Fitzgerald but reminded everyone the veteran who turns 38 years old late next month is "a true businessman," which suggests the wideout might simply be waiting for the right offer or right time to sign.

Trotter didn't necessarily break news, as Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said in May the franchise would "have a spot for" Fitzgerald if the all-time great wanted to pursue a Super Bowl with the franchise one last time.

Fitzgerald recorded 54 receptions for 409 yards and a touchdown in 13 games with the Cardinals last season.
