Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins to get second opinion on knee injury

Arizona Cardinals star wideout DeAndre Hopkins is getting opinions from multiple sources as he deals with a knee injury that could potentially require surgery -- and end his 2021 campaign prematurely.

According to NFL Network, Hopkins had an MRI on Tuesday after he injured his knee in last weekend's 30-23 loss to the LA Rams. The 29-year-old did not participate in Wednesday's walk-through practice. While Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said it's still "too early" to say if he'll miss time, Hopkins is expected to miss Arizona's Week 15 matchup against the Detroit Lions if not more.

Hopkins missed three games earlier in the season with a hamstring injury. He has tallied a team-leading eight touchdowns despite missing time but has also not eclipsed the 100-yard mark in any of those games.

He had five catches for 54 yards on Monday against the Rams before being sidelined, in a game L.A. played without star cornerback Jalen Ramsey. In the previous meeting between the Rams and Cardinals, Ramsey held Hopkins to 67 yards.

Losing Hopkins for the remainder of the season would be a major blow to the Cardinals, who were bumped from the top seed in the NFC on Monday by the Rams. They are still 10-3 on the season with a chance to get a first-round playoff bye with four games left in the regular season.
