Carolina Panthers sign cornerback Eli Apple

On Thursday, the Carolina Panthers announced the club has signed former New York Giants and New Orleans Saints cornerback Eli Apple to a one-year "prove it" contract.

The Giants spent the No. 10 pick of the 2016 NFL Draft on the defensive back out of Ohio State, but Apple was mostly a disappointment and bust during his stint with the organization before Big Blue sent him to New Orleans in October 2018.

The 24-year-old appeared to find his form during his first 10 New Orleans appearances, as he tallied a pair of interceptions and nine passes defended.

Apple started 15 games for the Saints last season with zero interceptions, four passes defended, one forced fumble, and 53 solo tackles.

As Grant Gordon wrote for NFL.com in early April, an agreement between Apple and the Las Vegas Raiders fell through before the sides put pen to paper. Las Vegas instead signed Damarious Randall.
