Carson Wentz facing four- to six-week recovery from fractured finger
The Washington Commanders (2-4) are already buried in the NFC East standings behind the Philadelphia Eagles (6-0), New York Giants (5-1) and Dallas Cowboys (4-2). Now, they've lost their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
Ben Standig of The Athletic reported Monday afternoon that Wentz hadn't yet met with the hand specialist as of 3:30 p.m. ET, but the four-to-six-week timeframe may still hold. With Taylor Heinicke presumably getting ready to take over QB1 duties, the Commanders' next four opponents will be the Green Bay Packers, the Indianapolis Colts, the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles.
In his first season with Washington, Wentz has posted a 62.1% completion percentage for 1,489 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. He's added 19 carries for 79 yards and has been sacked a league-high 23 times.
In 16 games (15 starts) last season with the Commanders, Heinicke registered a 65.0% completion percentage with 3,419 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He contributed 60 rushing attempts for 313 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
