Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz thought he had a touchdown on his pass that was intercepted by Tennessee Titans linebacker David Long at the goal line Sunday.

The Commanders trailed the Titans 21-17 with six seconds remaining when Long dove to intercept Wentz’s pass intended for running back J.D. McKissic. The interception sealed the game’s outcome, handing the Commanders a fourth straight loss.

“I thought we had six points when it left my hand,” Wentz said, per Ben Standig of The Athletic.

“It looked like [David Long] was kind of covering Terry (McLaurin) a little bit on the crossing route. I just tried to squeeze it in there to JD. (Long) made a heck of a play,” Wentz said.

The Commanders had hope when wide receiver Terry McLaurin drew a pass interference call at the two-yard line with 24 seconds remaining. But they had no timeouts remaining, taking away the option of running the football for a potential go-ahead score.

Carson Wentz is on his third team in three seasons after being traded by the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts in back-to-back seasons. A lot was made in the aftermath of his departure from the Colts after one season.

Colts owner Jim Irsay has been vocal about his displeasures of Wentz’s play in key moments. On Sunday, the now 1-4 Commanders got a good taste of those concerns that have followed Wentz from Philadelphia and Indianapolis.
