After dipping their toes in the slime with Nickelodeon over the past two seasons, the NFL is officially diving in head first with an alternate Super Bowl broadcast for Super Bowl LVIII. The Nickelodeon alternate broadcast will be kid-oriented and child-friendly.

Former NFL receiver Nate Burleson will star as the main host for the Super Bowl broadcast. He’s previously worked for the network to broadcast NFL Slimetime. CBS Sports plans to announce other details, including announcers, at a later date. In past NFL and Nickelodeon broadcasts, Burleson’s daughter and NFL Insider Adam Schefter’s daughter have interviewed players for the show.

CBS Sports will produce the main coverage of the big game for CBS and Paramount+ on Feb 11. The Nickelodeon production of the game will also stream on Paramount+.

The Nickelodeon telecast will have on-field graphics, guest reporters and virtual filters (i.e. lots of slime).

It will also be distributed in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand on delay.

CBS Sports is also producing an alternate telecast for Nickelodeon for the Raiders-Chiefs game on Christmas Day.

The NFL has been working with Nickelodeon for NFL Slimetime since 2021. Following the 2022 season, the network picked the weekly program back up for a third year.

Super Bowl LVIII will be on February 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. It’s a first for Nevada following the move of the Raiders from Oakland to Las Vegas.

Super Bowl 57 ranked third-most watched program

An estimated 113.1 million viewers watched Super Bowl 57 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles this year, which made it the third-most-watched television program in history.

Fox broadcasted the game and total viewership numbers included broadcasts on the main Fox channel, as well as FOX Deportes, streaming on Fox and NFL’s digital sites.

Super Bowl 49 between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks is the most-viewed program in television history. That game had an audience of 114.4 million viewers. It was one of the most incredible finishes to a Super Bowl with Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepting Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at the 1-yard line with 26 seconds remaining. The Patriots won 28-24 because the Seahawks chose not to hand Marshawn Lynch the ball.

The New England Patriots’ Super Bowl 51 overtime thriller in 2017 against Atlanta had an audience of 113,7 million. Tom Brady led New England to victory after falling behind 28-3.
