Recruiting. It has been engrained in the person of Jim Harbaugh. Now, back in the NFL, the new Los Angeles Chargers head coach must continue to recruit players. The difference is that those guys are mostly veteran free agents with plenty of pro experience. His latest recruiting pitch is for a running back.
Harbaugh and the Chargers are hosting former Baltimore Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins on Thursday.
Of course, Dobbins previously played for Jim's brother, John, in Baltimore. Dobbins also spent time with Greg Roman, Los Angeles' new offensive coordinator.
For the Chargers, they are looking at adding talent at the running back position after letting Austin Ekeler go elsewhere in free agency. LA already signed former Ravens RB Gus Edwards. Now, they may add another former Raven runner.
The biggest question mark for Dobbins? His health. He missed all of 2021. Over the past three years, he has played in just nine games. Dobbins tore his achilles in the season opener last season.
That being said, Tom Pelissero reports that Dobbins has been cleared for football activities by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
Dobbins is ready to return, but he does have risk due to those medical issues in the past. Hopefully, he can get a team-friendly deal from the Chargers to prove that he can stay on the field in 2024.
