As the Los Angeles Chargers training camp approaches, fans are excited to see their team back on the football field. The Chargers had a disappointing end to their 2022 season, mainly due to their struggling defense. However, the team is determined to turn things around in 2023, and a key area of focus will be improving their defense, especially the safety position.

Leading the charge on defense is none other than Derwin James, widely regarded as the best safety in the league. James not only brings his exceptional skills to the field but also serves as the captain and anchor for the Chargers' defensive unit. His leadership and influence carry significant weight within the team.

When James speaks, we listen, and that was the case when he talked to LA's seasonal content assistant Omar Navarro, who expressed his admiration for his fellow safety Alohi Gilman.

"A lot of confidence in [Gilman]," James said. "He's a guy that's consistent. Everyone here counts on him. Everyone knows that he's going to be where he needs to be."He's getting better. He's making calls. He's confident," James added. "It's exciting being out there. It's been a lot of fun, a lot of energy out there, honestly."

Gilman had an impressive 2022 season, recording one interception, three pass deflections, one forced fumble, and an impressive 58 combo tackles. Although he started in only five games, Gilman showcased his potential in all 17 games he played. As the new season approaches, the Chargers are optimistic that Gilman is primed for a breakout year.

With the support and praise from Derwin James, Gilman's confidence and determination are sure to be soaring.

As he gears up for a potential starting role alongside James, fans are eager to witness Gilman's growth and improvement from last season to the upcoming one. The season is upon us, and we cannot wait to see Gilman and the Chargers back on the gridiron.
