The Los Angeles Chargers have promoted one of their recent draft picks to their active roster.

The Chargers on Tuesday added quarterback Max Duggan to their active roster, Duggan’s agent said.

Chargers No. 1 quarterback Justin Herbert underwent season-ending surgery on his fractured finger. The surgery means Easton Stick will be the team’s starting quarterback moving forward. Duggan, who was previously serving as the team’s No. 3 QB, will now be in the backup role.

Duggan is a rookie out of TCU. As a senior last season, he passed for 3,698 yards, 32 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He also rushed for 423 yards and nine TDs while leading TCU to the national championship game. Duggan finished second in Heisman Trophy voting to Caleb Williams last year.

Duggan has not seen any game action this season, while Stick made his first appearance in relief of Herbert in Week 14. Stick went 13-for-24 for 179 yards in the Chargers’ 24-7 loss to the Broncos.

The Chargers are scheduled to visit the Raiders in Las Vegas on Thursday night in Week 15.
