The Bolts have signed former Patriots, Panthers, and Cowboys QB Will Grier. The West Virginia product was selected in the 3rd round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but is yet to find a home, even as a backup.

The 6’3” 28-year old is going from one awful QB room to another, as leaving New England for the Chargers has made his QB competition in the past few months Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, Malik Cunningham, and now, Easton Stick and Max Duggan.

Grier failing to find playing time despite a QB carousel in New England isn't a great look, as it likely suggests that he may just not be an NFL QB.

Keeping that in mind, it's possible Easton Stick and Max Duggan aren't either, so given the Bolts' tanking efforts and probability of being blown out at least once in their next 3 games, Grier may end up seeing the field.

The Chargers have already dismissed Max Duggan previously prior to resigning him, so it's clear that the franchise isn't particularly high on him. If Grier can perform well in practice over the next couple of weeks, he could take over the backup QB role heading into Weeks 17 and 18.

Even into the future, Grier could prove himself as a capable backup QB, as Easton Stick has done little to warrant that title while Max Duggan could very well be cut again. It's unlikely this signing means much, but anything is possible.
