Chargers sign former Panthers DL Morgan Fox

The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to a deal with free-agent defensive lineman Morgan Fox, his agent announced on Wednesday.

Fox played in 17 games last season, starting nine, for the Carolina Panthers. He ended the year recording 34 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

The 27-year-old signed a two-year, $8.1 million contract with Carolina ahead of the 2021 season. The Panthers released Fox on March 16.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Rams in 2016, Fox would spend four seasons in LA. After seeing action in only four games his rookie season, Fox played in all 16 regular-season games for the Rams the next three seasons. His best season came in 2020, when now Chargers head coach Brandon Staley was the defensive coordinator for the Rams. Fox recorded 27 tackles and a career-high six sacks.

In 52 games over four seasons with the Rams, Fox had 103 tackles, 12 sacks, and four forced fumbles.

Fox is another addition to the list of offseason moves by the Chargers to retool its defense. Los Angeles has already added edge-rusher Khalil Mack, defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day, linebacker Troy Reeder and cornerback Bryce Callahan.
