Chargers sign LB Kyle Van Noy after visit with team
It was learned on Thursday that the Los Angeles Chargers were having free-agent linebacker Kyle Van Noy in for a visit.
The Chargers didn't let him leave without putting pen to paper for a deal.
Los Angeles confirmed via a team release that it has signed Van Noy. No specifics about the contract were announced:
Van Noy first entered the NFL when the Detroit Lions selected him in the second round of the 2014 draft but enjoyed his greatest professional successes after Detroit traded him to the New England Patriots in the fall of 2016. The 31-year-old went on to appear in three straight Super Bowls and earned a pair of championship rings before, per the NFL's website, he signed a four-year, $51 million deal with the Miami Dolphins in the spring of 2020.
Van Noy's working relationship with Miami didn't last long, however, as he was released after just a single season. He returned to the Patriots for the 2021 campaign and tallied 66 total tackles, five sacks, an interception taken to the house for a touchdown, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 10 pass breakups.
According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, the Patriots cleared roughly $4.1 million in salary-cap space by releasing Van Noy this past March.
