The Chicago Bears have started to play better as of late. While they still have had some ugly wins and bad losses, the quality of the play overall is better. Tight end Cole Kmet is having a solid season and talked yesterday about how the Bears are viewing the final five games of the season.

Chicago Bears Cole Kmet Says Team Is In Playoff Mode

The Bears sit at 4-8 and one could claim that they should already start to look towards 2024. This is not the case for the team. The Vikings and Packers are both at 6-6 and currently in the playoff picture. Neither of those teams are slam dunks to make it. If the Bears go on a run, they could sneak in.

“Look, we finish these five out here. Obviously I’m treating it like we’re in playoff mode now. I think five very winnable games here to end the season. Who knows what can happen at 9-8? I’m not looking too big picture, you take it one week at a time. Look, there’s a lot of flux at the bottom of the NFC here, especially for that seven, six spot. You never know what can happen. You gotta take it one week at a time and we’ll see where it goes.”

Kmet knows they have a chance. At the very least, going on a winning streak could help propel this team into 2024.

Thank You Panthers

What makes this even sweeter is that the Bears are in line for a top-three pick thanks to their trade with the Carolina Panthers. What this allows the team to do is not worry about where their pick lands. If they win out and sneak into the playoffs, they still could end up with the number one overall pick. It is one of the many reasons that fans and analysts are starting to give the Bears some attention. While this year seems like a long shot, the end of this year could set the foundation for 2024.

The Bears should look no further than the division rival Lions to how this could go. The Lions started the 2022 season terribly but a huge winning streak propelled them into a successful 2023. Could the Bears take a similar trajectory?
