The Chicago Bears are trading wide receiver Anthony Miller to the Houston Texans, parting ways with the talented offensive weapon after months of NFL trade rumors.

Miller, a 2018 second-round pick, surfaced as a trade candidate this offseason. With the Bears looking to make significant changes on offense, the 5-foot-11 slot receiver became expendable. Finally, Chicago found a new home for him before training camp.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo first reported the trade, which provides Houston with another target for an offense in need of significant help. According to Ian Rapoport, the teams are swapping late-round picks.

A consensus All-American at the University of Memphis, Miller quickly made an impression as a rookie. He hauled in 33 receptions for 423 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, grabbing 61.1 percent of the passes thrown his direction.

As the Bears’ quarterback play declined, Miller’s numbers slipped. He became less involved in the offense, and it became evident toward the end of the 2020 season that a change of scenery was necessary.

Miller joins a crowded receiving corps in Houston, but there is a path to opportunities and targets. Brandin Cooks has struggled with injuries throughout his career and Keke Coutee hasn’t lived up to his draft status. If Miller earns the trust of  Tyrod Taylor, he could improve his stock before testing NFL free agency in 2022.
