Chiefs dealing with three notorious curses ahead of Super Bowl LVII

The Kansas City Chiefs are up against a lot of superstitions this weekend.

The +1.5 underdogs will have to overcome three major curses against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

The MVP curse

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won his second NFL MVP award earlier this week. The 27-year-old threw for a league-best 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns this season.

It's a fantastic achievement, but the accolade hasn't had the best track record recently.

The last nine regular-season MVPs to reach the Super Bowl have lost. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning were victims of the curse twice. Kurt Warner was the last MVP to win the Big Game in 2000.

The Drake curse

Drake announced on Instagram he's all-in on the Chiefs. The rapper dropped a variety of high-stakes wagers on the team, totaling a staggering $965,000. He bet $700,000 alone on a Kansas City victory.

This isn't the best news for Mahomes and company, as Drake's public support for teams has often led to undesirable outcomes and become known as "The Drake Curse."

He's aware of it too. The Toronto native wore 76ers gear when his hometown Raptors played against Philadelphia in Game 7 of the 2019 NBA playoffs — which ended with Kawhi Leonard's iconic buzzer-beater.

The Rocky Balboa curse

Philadelphia legend Rocky Balboa has his own bigger-than-life statue in the city. Opposing fans have found it humorous to dress the boxer up in their teams' wardrobes. But the joke hasn't fared well for those fans, including the most recent 49ers victims.

Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce warned Chiefs Kingdom to steer clear of the statue before the game.

"Chiefs, do not touch the Rocky memorial!" Kelce said on his "New Heights" podcast with brother and Eagles center Jason Kelce, according to ESPN. "Do not do that, and definitely don't put a No. 87 on it!"

Well, one fan wasn't convinced of the superstition.
