The Kansas City Chiefs are just a few days away from a Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. As the team prepares to hit the road, one member of Steve Spagnuolo's defense is being handled with an abundance of caution.

For the second day in a row, defensive tackle Matt Dickerson will not participate in Kansas City's afternoon practice.

On Wednesday, head coach Andy Reid revealed that Dickerson's knee "swelled up" but wasn't anything long-term or serious in nature. Despite that, the 27-year-old out of UCLA is facing a challenge in terms of getting back on the practice field and being deemed good to go in time for Sunday's game. Dickerson, who was recently signed to Kansas City's 53-man roster, has recorded four tackles in 76 defensive snaps spanning across three games this season (Week 1, Week 2 and Week 4).

As the Chiefs hit the field for Thursday's practice, here's how Wednesday's injury report turned out:

  • DID NOT PRACTICE: Dickerson
  • LIMITED PARTICIPANT: Nick Bolton (ankle), Jaylen Watson (shoulder)
  • FULL PARTICIPANT: Jack Cochrane (calf), Chris Jones (groin), George Karlaftis (knee), L'Jarius Sneed (knee), Kadarius Toney (toe), Drue Tranquill (wrist)

In other injury-related news, Bolton and Watson will practice in some capacity for the second day in a row. Spagnuolo described Bolton as "chomping at the bit" to make his return to the lineup in Week 5, although he also admitted that a decision on his playing status is "probably going to be right down to the end of the week." The third-year linebacker is still recovering from a sprained ankle suffered in the team's Week 2 win down in Jacksonville against the Jaguars.

No further update on Watson was made available on Thursday, although the fact that he and Bolton are participating in a more ramped-up practice bodes better for the team than having either or both held out. Thursday afternoon/evening's injury report will shed more light on the Chiefs' bill of health.
