Following Thursday's scheduled day off at Kansas City Chiefs training camp in St. Joseph, MO, the team was back at it on Friday morning for the first day of practice with pads on for all who participated. Unfortunately for Kansas City, though, a trio of players was unable to make it out of the a.m. slate unscathed.

Tight end Jody Fortson, linebacker Drue Tranquill and defensive end Mike Danna all left practice early with respective injuries. According to head coach Andy Reid later in the morning, Fortson suffered a shoulder injury and Tranquill strained his neck. Danna's aliment is described as a strained calf.

Reid didn't provide any additional details on the three injuries suffered during Friday's practice. There was no change regarding the designations for linebacker Isaiah Moore (knee), defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton (knee, ACL rehab) and wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee surgery). All three of them were held out of practice, as expected.

Durability has been a question mark for Fortson over the course of his Chiefs career, especially once he started getting game-day reps on the active roster. His 2021 season was cut short due to a torn Achilles, and last year saw him miss Week 9 and then Weeks 16-18 to close out the regular season. He was also inactive for Kansas City's Divisional Round matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. On Friday, Fortson's injury appeared to have taken place when linebacker Cole Christiansen rolled up on him following a pass from quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

Tranquill, the Chiefs' offseason signing to help fortify the linebacker position, played in all 17 games for the Los Angeles Chargers and started 16 of them. He's three years removed from a broken leg suffered early in the 2020 campaign and played through some ailments in 2021, but he's been mostly healthy since.

Danna dealt with calf injuries this past season and missed four of the team's first seven games to start the year, but he played in every outing thereafter and had five sacks in 10 weeks to close out the regular season.
