Chiefs' Justin Reid isn't backing down from pregame talk despite loss
Going into Sunday's AFC Championship rematch Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid said he was going to lock up every Cincinnati Bengals pass catcher and did not know who tight end Hayden Hurst was.
On Tuesday, Reid doubled down on the talk despite the fact the Chiefs defense got smoked in a 27-24 loss to the Bengals, their third loss to them over the past calendar year.
Reid Tweeted on Tuesday morning: "Unpopular opinion: we lost… but I was still right. Cry about it."
You have to admire the confidence, but that is also a tough look that is not going to get much sympathy or understanding from, well, anybody given what happened on Sunday.
Even though none of the Bengals receivers put up huge numbers individually (Ja'Marr Chase had a team-high 97 yards), they still scored 27 points and racked up 451 yards of total offense as they continued to display their mastery of the Chiefs.
Kansas City also only forced one Cincinnati punt all day.
No matter how you slice it, there was nothing about the Bengals offense that was "locked up." They did what they wanted when they needed to do it.
The Chiefs are still one of the best teams in the league, but that loss has made it so they might lose the all-important bye week and home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. They needed that game and they did not get it.
