Chiefs landing All-Pro Deebo Samuel, other top-tier WRs 'probably all long shots'

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel sent shockwaves throughout the NFL on Wednesday when he apparently requested a trade. It was later reported that the Niners were eyeing "king's ransom" if they were to move out their All-Pro, before Samuel himself spoke up and hinted that there was more to the story.

Samuel was still dominating the headlines on Thursday morning, as some have speculated that the Kansas City Chiefs could be a good fit for the 26-year-old. Per NFL.com senior columnist Jeffri Chadiha, a Samuel-Kansas City connection is unlikely to happen though, and it does not look like the Chiefs will be reeling in any of the other big-name wideouts who have been seeking contract extensions lately.

Kansas City traded three-time All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in March and thus far, have only started to fill the void with former Green Bay Packers speedster Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who they signed shortly after the Hill trade. Brown, Metcalf and McLaurin have all been in the news recently regarding trade rumors or stalled contract extension talks.

It was reported in early April that the Tennessee Titans were "not shopping or taking calls" on Brown, and also that there was "no truth" to the Metcalf-to-New York Jets rumors. With regards to McLaurin, news came out two weeks ago that the Washington Commanders had not yet made a contract extension offer to the star receiver.

Whichever team Samuel ends up playing on in 2022, he will bring a dynamic offense talent to the field unlike few others in the game. Last year, he not only made his first Pro Bowl and earned First-Team All-Pro honors, but he led the NFL in yards per reception (18.2), while recording 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns on 136 touches.
