Chiefs LB Willie Gay Jr. arrested for misdemeanor property damage

The Kansas City Chiefs look to continue their journey towards a third consecutive Super Bowl appearance when they play the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, but they could be without one of their starting linebackers.

2020 second-round draft pick Willie Gay Jr. was arrested in Overland Park, Kan., Wednesday night for misdemeanor property damage and is currently being held in Johnson County jail, according to deputies.

"Gay, 23, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. and booked into the Johnson County Detention Center, where he remained Thursday morning awaiting bond. He has a court appearance scheduled for 2:30 p.m.," KCTV5 News journalist Shain Bergan reported. "Charging documents state Gay damaged a vacuum cleaner, wall and door frame during a confrontation with a woman. It's being classified as a domestic violence offense. Gay is charged with misdemeanor criminal damage under $1,000."

The linebacker's representative, Maxx Lepselter added the following details on Thursday morning.

Gay Jr. missed the Chiefs' first four games of the 2021 season while on injured reserve and finished the campaign with 48 tackles, four passes defended and two interceptions. No. 2 Kansas City takes on No. 3 Buffalo in the AFC Divisional round at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
