The Kansas City Chiefs' roller coaster with rookie Keondre Coburn has had its fair share of ups and downs thus far in the 2023 season. As of Wednesday, it appears that things are taking yet another turn and the sixth-round pick is on the move once again.
Initially announced by agent Murphy McGuire and later confirmed by the team's official site , the No. 194 overall pick in this year's NFL Draft is heading to the Tennessee Titans. Coburn will join the club's 53-man roster from the Kansas City practice squad.
Back in October, Kansas City cut ties with Coburn by waiving him in order to make room for defensive end Charles Omenihu when he came off the suspended list. The Denver Broncos claimed him, although his time with the franchise ultimately didn't last very long. Less than a month later, Denver waived Coburn and he signed back to the Chiefs on a practice squad basis. At the time he was initially waived by the Chiefs, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was hoping that his rookie would eventually end up back with the team.
"Yeah, we sure do," Spagnuolo said. "I love KC. He was great. I gave him a big hug this morning, and I'll be saying prayers later on that we'll be able to [get him back]. He's a good kid."
The first-year nose tackle didn't play in any subsequent games upon returning although with Tennessee being banged up along the interior of its defensive line, there's a chance that Coburn gets a more serious look on Mike Vrabel's squad. Because he signed from the Chiefs' practice squad to the Titans' active roster, Coburn has to stay there for three weeks at a minimum.
Thus far in his rookie year, Coburn has played in just one game: Kansas City's season-opener against the Detroit Lions. Logging nine defensive snaps that week, the former Texas Longhorns standout logged a tackle for loss and no other box score statistics. Over the course of his collegiate career, Coburn recorded 94 tackles (14 for loss) with 5.5 sacks, two passes defended and two forced fumbles.
