The Kansas City Chiefs may be in the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years, but there is still no doubt that they need some more weapons in the aerial attack. That’s where the Seattle Seahawks could come into play.

Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department lists Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett as one of the top potential trade targets for the Chiefs this offseason.

Seattle is currently in a rather tough salary cap situation, as it is just over the cap heading into the offseason. While the Seahawks aren’t in the same salary cap hell as, say, the New Orleans Saints or the Buffalo Bills, they could still stand to shed some money.

Could Lockett be someone Seattle aims to move?

The 31-year-old has two years remaining on his deal. He is slated to earn $16.35 million in base salary next season and is on tap to make $15.3 million in 2025.

It would certainly be nice for the Seahawks to get out from under that salary, especially if they don’t plan on legitimately contending for a Super Bowl over the next couple of years (and with their current roster, it’s hard to imagine them doing so).

It should also be noted that Lockett took a bit of a step back this season, as it marked the first time since 2018 that he did not post 1,000 yards.

That does not mean Lockett isn’t still productive, because he is, but he could be on the verge of a decline, so Seattle may want to move him now.

Kansas City is in dire need of another receiver to put alongside of Rashee Rice, and Lockett could be the answer. He isn’t exactly Tyreek Hill, but he is a steady, sure-handed pass-catcher and a terrific route runner who would largely benefit from playing with Patrick Mahomes.

Tyler Lockett has been one of the most underrated receivers in football for quite some time now. Perhaps he would be appreciated by the public a heck of a lot more if he played for the Chiefs.

Kansas City will battle the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11.
