How Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs has started his career is something that we have seen before with a player that most reconsider as the greatest to play the game.

Tom Brady was successful on the biggest of stages early on in his NFL Career and that is something that Mahomes has been able to do with multiple Super Bowl wins.

When it comes to being the greatest to ever play the quarterback position, Mahomes knows he has a ways to go and keeps it real on that front.

“You have to build a consistency of a career,” said Mahomes in an interview with Time Magazine. “You see that in any sport. I’ve had a great run. I think I’ve done a great job so far. But it’s hard to take away from what Tom did for so long, what Peyton Manning did, or Aaron Rodgers. There are so many guys, they were at such a high level for such a long time. In order to be in that conversation, you have to do that on a year-to-year basis. You can’t take it for granted that you did it the year before.”

At age 28, Mahomes has already won the Super Bowl three times and took home Most Valuable Player in each of those three games. Overall, the Chiefs quarterback has won the season MVP award twice.

Brady played into his 40s and captured seven Super Bowl wins. If Mahomes is lucky on the health side, perhaps he can chase the ability to play the same amount of time.

When all is said and done, Mahomes is going to have a resume that stands up with the best. For the time being he has accepted reality that he needs to do this whole football thing just a bit longer to put his name alongside some of the greats.
