Chiefs power-couple could celebrate Valentine's Day with Super Bowl parade
Picture this: Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce and global superstar Taylor Swift, side-by-side, parading the streets of downtown Kansas City after a Chiefs Super Bowl victory – on Valentine's Day, no less.
It's a scene even Hollywood might reject as too unbelievable, but it's one step closer to becoming a reality.
Should the Chiefs triumph over the San Francisco 49ers and win back-to-back Super Bowls, the city will celebrate on the most romantic day of the year, Feb. 14. According to Tod Palmer of KSHB, an ordinance to allocate funds for the potential celebration advanced Wednesday through the Kansas City Finance, Governance, and Public Safety Committee, securing the date.
Of course, the Chiefs still have to come away winners in Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas for any of it to matter. Many questions remain unanswered ahead of the big game.
Would Travis and Taylor get their own float? Or would she even be able to make it? As Palmer points out, Swift will be performing in Melbourne, Australia, only two days after the parade on Feb. 16, which could throw a wrench into the love bird's plans.
The idea of Swift celebrating with the Lombardi Trophy is bound to generate plenty of interesting dialog from NFL fans on both ends of the spectrum. For the most vocal group, those who seemingly have an issue with love, Kelce recently joked that the power-couple was "slowly reeling them in." Perhaps seeing the joy on their faces during a Super Bowl parade will finally sway them to the dark side, but neither Kelce nor Swift should hold their breaths.
Many believe the Kelce/Swift circus will ultimately put bad juju on the Chiefs. While that might be wishful thinking for some, those same "cranky NFL fans," as Kelce calls them, have a little new ammo to use – the franchise planning a parade before winning.
While setting things in stone ahead of time might be necessary, opponents have used similar circumstances as rallying cries. However, Mayor Quinton Lucas did his best to quell any heat the move might cause, saying, "No bulletin board material here," when asked about it providing extra motivation for the 49ers.
