Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' incredible streak snapped in one-sided loss to Broncos

Patrick Mahomes is human after all.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback didn't have his best day in a one-sided loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 8. Stricken with the flu, Mahomes — unlike Michael Jordan — struggled to produce while watching an incredible streak go up in smoke.

In K.C.'s stunning 24-9 loss to Denver, Mahomes failed to record a touchdown pass for the first time since Dec. 5, 2021, a streak of 29 games. Over a stretch that lasted roughly two full seasons, Mahomes averaged 26 completions for 300 yards and two touchdown passes per game.

Mahomes didn't come close to surpassing the record holder, Drew Brees, who threw a touchdown pass in an outrageous 54 straight games. Still, he did put together a respectable run, historically. The streak ranks 13th all time, giving Mahomes two of the longest. He also registered a 31-game streak from 2019 to 2021, the ninth-longest in NFL history.

While he won't get a chance to top Brees, he did join him as the only quarterback to own two of the top 15 spots on the list of longest touchdown passing streaks.

Unsurprisingly, Mahomes had the longest active streak in the NFL before having it snapped against the Broncos of all teams. The new active leaders are Buffalo Bills Josh Allen and Miami Dolphins Tua Tagovailoa, who increased their respective streaks to 17 straight games in Week 8.

As for Mahomes' performance against the Broncos, it was lackluster at best. The Chiefs star finished 24-of-38 for 241 yards and two interceptions for a miserable 59.2 passer rating. It's already Mahomes' second game with two picks or more. He had two such games all of 2022.

Mahomes was under the weather, so there shouldn't be a reason to panic. However, if he flounders again in Week 9 against the Dolphins in Germany, the concern meter will continue to rise.
