Five-year veteran linebacker Drue Tranquill is expected to sign a new contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Tranquill, a former fourth-round pick, spent the 2023 season with the Kansas City Chiefs but has also played for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Drue Tranquill, Kansas City Chiefs, Expected to Agree to Contract

After spending the first four years of his career with Los Angeles, Drue Tranquill signed a one-year contract with the division-rival Kanas City Chiefs in free agency. That decision worked out, as Tranquill put together a solid season. In total, the linebacker appeared in 16 games while making eight starts. While on the field, he recorded 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, 78 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss and seven quarterback hits. Of course, the Chiefs themselves had a strong season, winning the Super Bowl in large part thanks to their great defense.

Drue Tranquill originally entered the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Los Angeles Chargers, the Notre Dame product spent the majority of his rookie season as a rotational player. In total, Tranquill appeared in 15 games while making three starts, finishing his inaugural campaign with 75 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, and one pass defended.

Tranquill built on his rookie campaign to earn a starting job at the beginning of the 2020 season. Unfortunately, the linebacker suffered an ankle injury in Week 1, prematurely ending his season after just one game.

The linebacker returned with a vengeance in 2021, determined to prove that he deserved a starting job. In total, he recorded 1.5 sacks, 76 tackles, five tackles-for-loss and three quarterback hits in 14 games. Tranquill followed this up with his best season in the final year of his contract. Appearing in all 17 games, the linebacker set career highs in sacks (five), tackles (146), quarterback hits (eight) and tackles-for-loss (10).

Since signing his rookie contract, Tranquill has appeared in 63 games while making 35 starts. While on the field, the Notre Dame product has recorded 376 tackles, 26 tackles-for-loss, 18 quarterback hits and one interception.
