Chiefs reportedly find Eric Bieniemy's replacement at OC

With a hole to fill at offensive coordinator after losing Eric Bieniemy to the Washington Commanders on Friday, the Kanas City Chiefs appear to have found a replacement in-house.

According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs plan to promote senior offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy to OC.

Nagy previously held the same role with the Chiefs in 2017 before taking the head-coaching gig with the Chicago Bears ahead of the 2018 season. Nagy spent four seasons with the Bears, amassing a 34-31 regular-season mark and an 0-2 record in the postseason. Fired after a 6-11 finish in 2021, Nagy rejoined Andy Reid's staff before the 2022 campaign.

Wilson also mentioned another intriguing nugget that Nagy is seen by many in the Chiefs organization as the successor to Reid when the future Hall of Fame coach decides to retire.

For now, Nagy will take over the role previously held by Bieniemy, who will get a fresh start with the Commanders. Bieniemy, passed over after yet another head-coaching cycle, will look to "prove" himself even more than he already has as the OC and assistant head coach in Washington.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs' adjustment with Nagy at OC should be seamless. After all, he was a member of the Super Bowl LVII-winning staff and worked under Reid previously with the Philadelphia Eagles before following him to Kansas City in 2012.
