The Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl LVIII matchup against the San Francisco 49ers is well over a week away, but preparation is already in full swing.
Ahead of the biggest game of the year, Kansas City is already putting the finishing touches on uniforms. As the home team in Las Vegas, the Chiefs appear to be taking the field sporting a familiar jersey concept at Allegiant Stadium.
In a social media post on Tuesday morning, the Chiefs shared a three-image teaser of red jerseys — the same color they wore in a Super Bowl LIV victory over the 49ers. In the images, Kansas City highlighted its Super Bowl LVIII patch, a special patch paying tribute to the late Norma Hunt and more. San Francisco, the "visitors," are slated to wear white jerseys.
Elsewhere is a captain patch for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and an AFL patch that, as normal, pays homage to the late Lamar Hunt. The Chiefs have traditionally worn the AFL-style branding on their uniforms and all season long, they've had an "NKH" patch on the right side of jerseys to honor Norma.
Following the club's AFC Championship Game win over the Baltimore Ravens, Mahomes gave a brief tribute to the longtime Chiefs matriarch. Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt appreciated Mahomes's gesture right after such a monumental victory.
"Well obviously, a very special day for our family," Hunt said. "Any time you have a chance to compete for a championship, it's a special opportunity. Being able to bring home another Lamar Hunt Trophy is special for our family, it's special for the organization. It was so thoughtful of Patrick to mention my mother up there on the stage."
For the Chiefs, they're hoping the red jerseys will bring the same luck it did back in 2020's Super Bowl. Down 20-10 entering the fourth quarter, Kansas City ended up scoring three touchdowns in the final frame and completing a thrilling comeback for its first world championship in decades. Now, there's another opportunity on the table. The Chiefs can cement themselves as a dynasty next Sunday, as well as make the Hunt family proud in the process.
