Update: Edwards has officially been ruled out with a concussion.

The Kansas City Chiefs defense has taken a big hit during the opening series of the AFC divisional round game against the Buffalo Bills.

A big collision between Bills WR Stefon Diggs and Chiefs S Mike Edwards on the second play of the game left Edwards injured on the field. The Chiefs training staff escorted him off the field following the play, but he was able to walk under his own power. He went straight to the blue injury tent where he was evaluated by the training staff and an independent neuro consultant.

Edwards eventually emerged from the blue tent, but he was seen heading to the locker room for further evaluation. The team announced shortly after that Edwards was being evaluated for a head injury.

CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson said on the broadcast for the game that Edwards is in the NFL's concussion protocol. That would make his return for the divisional round game unlikely.

Edwards was replaced by veteran Chiefs S Deon Bush, who spent the entirety of last season on the 53-man roster in Kansas City. Bush spent the majority of this season on the practice squad, but he was called up when Bryan Cook was injured. Expect rookie DB Chamarri Conner to get some run in place of Edwards as well.

The loss of Edwards is a pretty big one. He's proven to be a ball hawk and he's produced the most points for the Chiefs' defense this season with a fumble recovery touchdown and an assist on a fumble recovery touchdown by the aforementioned Cook.
