The Kansas City Chiefs had some pass catchers at One Arrowhead Drive for workouts on Tuesday, and after a successful workout, one of those players is joining the practice squad.

A source tells A to Z Sports that TE Izaiah Gathings has been signed to the practice squad. Gathings, a rookie out of Middle Tennessee State, spent some time with Kansas City during training camp and the preseason. He originally signed with the New York Jets as a rookie minicamp tryout after going undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft.

A former college receiver, Gathings is listed at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. He caught 60 passes for 559 receiving yards and two touchdowns at MTSU in his final collegiate season.

Gathings made some nice plays during training camp and had a handful of catches during the preseason for the Chiefs. He was released by Kansas City during 53-man roster cuts in September, and he was not re-signed to the practice squad, at least until now.

This move comes after the Chiefs lost practice squad TE Gerrit Prince to an undisclosed injury suffered during practice. Prince was moved to the practice squad injured list on December 12.

While we now have some clarity on this signing, there's still no word on former Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller's deal and whether it's a practice squad transaction, reserve/future deal, or otherwise.

The move to sign Gathings should bring the practice squad to a full 16 players (keep in mind that Jason 'Chu' Godrick is exempt via the International Player Pathway program).
