Chiefs star Travis Kelce reveals his pick for best tight end of all time

Even at 33 years of age, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is still among the best in the NFL at his position.

Once the seven-time Pro Bowler hangs up his cleats for good, he's a shoo-in for the Pro Football Hall of Fame as arguably one of the best tight ends ever to grace a football field.

Kelce isn't ready to put himself in that conversation yet, however. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Kelce said Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez still holds the title as the best tight end ever.

"His career, year in, year out, I think it's unmatched," Kelce said of Gonzalez. "It's actually quite impressive. I'm still a career — or what seems like a lifetime away from catching what Tony Gonzalez has done in this league, and it's just a remarkable feat."

Gonzalez, who retired after the 2013 season, is still the all-time leader among tight ends in receptions (1,325) and yards (15,127).

The ever-humble Kelce wouldn't even call himself the best tight end playing today and instead gave the nod to Baltimore Ravens' Mark Andrews and San Francisco 49ers' George Kittle.

"This is by far the hardest question for me to answer because I have such a good relationship with all the tight ends throughout the league," Kelce said. "Right now, it's a tie between Mark Andrews and George Kittle."

Even if he fails to give himself credit, Kelce's numbers don't lie.

In his 10th NFL season, Kelce is fifth all-time in receptions (745) and receiving yards (9,461) by a tight end.

The seven-time Pro Bowler owns the record for most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons by a tight end, with six, and he's well on his way to a seventh. Kelce has recorded 41 catches for 455 yards and seven touchdowns through six games this season.
