Chiefs tie 70-year-old scoring record at Raiders' expense

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Las Vegas Raiders, 31-13, in Saturday night's Week 18 finale, and in doing so, equaled a 70-year-old record against its AFC West rival.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, after scoring 31 points on Saturday, the Chiefs have scored 28 points or more in 10-straight games against the Raiders.

That ties the Los Angeles Rams, who did the same to the Green Bay Packers from 1949 to 1953, for the longest such streak in NFL history.

The Chiefs are 9-1 against the Raiders over the streak, winning by an average of 19 points.

Kansas City's largest margin of victory, a 48-9 beatdown of the Raiders, came in Week 14 last season. Meanwhile, the Chiefs' slimmest margin occurred this season, a 30-29 win in Kansas City's first meeting with the Raiders.

The Chiefs' dominating stretch over the Raiders began in December 2018 when Patrick Mahomes threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns in a 40-33 Kansas City win.

On Saturday, Mahomes wasn't quite as good, finishing 18-of-26 for 202 yards and a touchdown. However, the Chiefs' dynamic quarterback set the NFL record for total yards (passing, rushing, and receiving) in a single season, passing future Hall of Famer Drew Brees.

With Saturday's record-tying victory over the Raiders, the Chiefs clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC, finishing the regular season at 14-3.
