Chiefs trade six-time Pro Bowl WR Tyreek Hill to Dolphins for five draft picks

Nearly three weeks ago, it was reported that the Kansas City Chiefs and star wide receiver Tyreek Hill were working on a contract extension . The negotiations evidently didn't go great, and in a stunning move on Wednesday, the Chiefs traded the six-time Pro Bowler to the Miami Dolphins.

Not only did the Dolphins land the three-time First-Team All-Pro to pair with 2021 rookie sensation Jaylen Waddle, but they locked up the speedster for the foreseeable future as well.

The announcement capped a frantic hour-plus that began when NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted that Kansas City granted permission to Hill's camp to seek a trade, and then multiple reports indicated that Miami was among two finalists for landing the "Cheetah." The New York Jets were named as the other contender in the running for Hill.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero also noted that, perhaps in anticipation of Hill's departure, the Chiefs were scheduled to meet with burner Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who has played for the Green Packers the past four seasons, on Wednesday. While "MVS" isn't on the same level as Hill, he could help ease the loss for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and give Kansas another deep threat.

Just prior to the Chiefs and Dolphins trade, Pelissero put the crazy March of this NFL offseason into perspective.

The 28-year-old Hill is coming off of another electric campaign in 2021, registering career-highs in targets (159), receptions (111) and receptions per game (6.5), while posting nine more receiving scores to put him over 50 for his career.
