Chiefs waive WR Josh Gordon, plan to place him on practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs waived wide receiver Josh Gordon, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Monday.

Gordon, 30, was a healthy scratch for the Chiefs in Sunday's divisional playoff matchup with the Buffalo Bills. He was also scratched from last weekend's roster against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The veteran posted five receptions for 32 yards with one touchdown in 12 games for the Chiefs this season. He caught just one pass for five yards in the last three games of the regular season.

Despite the low numbers, corresponding reports say Kansas City plans to add Gordon to its practice squad if/when he clears waivers and intends to continue working this him.

Gordon was suspended by the NFL in December 2019 for violating the league's substance abuse policies. He was reinstated and signed to the Chiefs prior to the start of the 2021 season.

The Chiefs host the Cincinnati Bengals next weekend in the AFC Championship Game.
