The Kansas City Chiefs will be without wide receiver Justyn Ross for the foreseeable future after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell placed the former Clemson star on the exempt list. Going on the list means that the wideout can’t practice or play until his matter is resolved with the league.
Ross entered a plea of not guilty on Tuesday following his arrest for alleged domestic battery. Despite the legal trouble, he practiced with the team this week. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters that the team will continue “taking in all the information.”
“With Justyn Ross, just addressing that up front, we’re taking in all the information, and have been. We’ll continue to do that. He’s back here. He’ll work today and we’ll just take it from there. Other than that I don’t really have any information for you other than what we’ve gathered,” Reid said prior to Ross’s designation to the commissioner’s exempt list.
Kansas City plays Denver next Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS and now, it appears they’ll be without the young receiver.
Ross pleads ‘not guilty’
Per the TMZ Sports report, Ross faces charges of domestic battery and criminal damage of greater than $1,000. He was released on $2,500 bond after appearing in court via Zoom on Tuesday.
It had previously been reported that Ross was booked on a charge of criminal damage of greater than $25,000.
The victim claims Ross was “dragging her through the house and has torn up the house.” She also claims that the receiver broke her cell phone during the incident.
The Chiefs player is due back in court regarding the charges in December. No further details regarding the receiver’s arrest were made available at the time of the report.
Ross has played all seven games this season for Kansas City, hauling in three receptions for 34 yards.
The 23-year-old receiver is in his second season with the Chiefs after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson. He spent the entirety of the 2022 season on injured reserve before making the 53-man roster this season. Last season, he dealt with a foot injury that he suffered late in his career with the Tigers.
While at Clemson, Ross totaled 2,389 yards and 20 touchdowns on 159 receptions. His best statistical year with the Tigers came as a freshman in 2018. That season he was responsible for 46 catches for 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.
