Chiefs won't draft RB after signing Jerick McKinnon?

Recent history shows the Kansas City Chiefs are keen on loading up on running backs, and some assumed the Chiefs could select a to-be rookie ball-carrier during Friday's draft rounds.

That may not be the case, however, as Adam Teicher of ESPN reported Friday afternoon the Chiefs have come to terms on an agreement with veteran Jerick McKinnon. Kansas City confirmed the signing later in the day.

McKinnon turns 29 years old on Monday and missed the 2018 and 2019 seasons due to complications caused by a torn ACL. He returned to the field with the San Francisco 49ers last fall and rushed for 319 yards and five touchdowns on 81 attempts. He also contributed 33 receptions for 253 yards and a score.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams are both slated to sit ahead of McKinnon on the Kansas City depth chart, and Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk notes the Chiefs also have Darwin Thompson and Elijah McGuire on the roster.

Logic would suggest the club will now address other positions during the remainder of the draft that kicked off Friday evening.
