Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo blasts Bill Cowher for comments on Colts' Jeff Saturday

Add sports radio legend Chris "Mad Dog" Russo to the list of people dunking on Bill Cowher over his comments about Indianapolis Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday.

"The great Bill Cowher, who got his job without working in Milwaukee," Russo said during his SiriusXM Radio show about the former Pittsburgh Steelers coach who now serves as an NFL analyst for CBS, per Brandon Contes of Awful Announcing. "The great Bill Cowher is annoyed that Jeff Saturday got a head-coaching job. 'It’s an insult to the profession.' Pipe down. You know what’s an insult to the profession? That you’re walking into the CBS set and you never worked a day in your life in broadcasting. Never a day!"

Russo was referring to how Cowher blasted the Colts and team owner Jim Irsay for naming Saturday as at least a temporary replacement for the fired Frank Reich on Nov. 7. The 47-year-old had no college or pro coaching experience before he guided Indianapolis to a 25-20 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders this past Sunday. Ahead of the Week 10 NFL action, Cowher said on CBS' pregame program that Irsay's decision was "a disgrace to the coaching profession" and "a travesty."

"How much experience does Cowher have? He got a job at CBS," Russo continued about the Hall of Famer and media personality. "What, did he go to Racine, Wisconsin, and I missed it? What did he do, go broadcast football games in Idaho to master his craft before CBS put him on the pregame show?"

Russo continued:

"So let me get this straight. Radio stations and TV stations and networks, they can hire people who have no experience whatsoever. Where you got a bunch of people working their rear-ends off making nothing. And they can’t get their foot in the door, yet Cowher wins a Super Bowl, does nothing after that, decides he wants to be a broadcaster!"

It is, of course, easy for individuals such as Russo and ESPN's Dan Orlovsky to take shots at Cowher with Saturday holding a 1-0 overall record as interim coach. Saturday's 4-5-1 Colts next host an 8-1 Philadelphia Eagles side coming off its first defeat of the season, a surprising 32-21 loss to the Washington Commanders, this coming Sunday.
