The Cleveland Browns executed a trade on Tuesday before the deadline that sent former 6th-rounder Donovan Peoples-Jones to Detroit. While the Lions get Peoples-Jones, the Browns will receive a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to Mary Kay Cabot.
In seven games played this season, the former Michigan Wolverine has pulled in eight catches for 97 yards. Last season, he posted a career-high of 61 catches on 98 targets for 839 yards and three touchdowns.
The Browns drafted Peoples-Jones in the sixth round out of Michigan in the 2020 NFL. This season was his last on the rookie deal he signed with Cleveland. Now, with Detroit, he’ll finish the year before becoming a free agent after the season.
The Detroit Lions, sitting at 6-2 after Week 8, face the Los Angeles Chargers after a bye in Week 9. They are one of just six teams in the league through eight weeks with six or more wins.
The Lions released Marvin Jones from the roster last week after the former fifth-rounder announced plans to take a break from football. He made five starts and had 5 catches for 35 yards through seven games this season.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones announced on Instagram last Tuesday that he’s stepping away from football to “take care of personal family matters.” Jones did not travel with the team to Baltimore to play the Ravens on Sunday.
Jones shared little about the family matter, but shared his respect and appreciation for his teammates, coaches, and the Lions organization. The Lions announced they released Jones shortly after he announced he would be stepping away.
“I just want to say that I have so much love and respect for the Ford Family, the city of Detroit, my teammate and coaches. To be brief, I am stepping away from the team to take care of personal family matters. Although this was no easy decision, I cannot be the person/player that I need to be for this team as well as tend to my family from afar. This organization has been amazing showing love and support for myself and my family over the years and this time is no different. For that I am appreciative. To my brothers and coaches, I will be rooting for you every step of the way! This is the year! Go get it!!!,” Jones wrote.
“Love and respect to ALL!” he concluded.
