Colin Cowherd: Tua Tagovailoa’s 'average arm’ will hold Dolphins back
Tua Tagovailoa may just be the most polarizing quarterback in the NFL.
Despite ranking in the top 10 in most major passing categories, Tagovailoa still has his share of doubters, including Fox Sports Radio personality Colin Cowherd.
On a recent episode of “The Herd,” Cowherd shared his skepticism regarding Miami’s ability to win road playoff games with Tagovailoa under center.
“Getting Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill together, this is the fastest receiving combo of all-time, they’re going to have a lot of yards and a dilemma is going to be created — Miami’s going to win games and get into the playoffs…and everybody’s going to be like ‘We’ve got our franchise quarterback.’ Tua is small with an average arm. And what’s going to happen, this Miami team is built to win in September and October, they’re built to win in a dome, they’re built to win in warm weather."
“But the AFC, they’re going to have to go on the road to Buffalo, Kansas City, Cincinnati, and Baltimore, and it’s cold and it’s windy in January, and you know how it’s going to end. …This small quarterback with an average arm and all these fast weapons is going to be reduced to sitting on the sidelines and watching the big strong quarterbacks do their thing.”
Tagovailoa, who’s won 66% of his games as Miami’s starting QB, leads the NFL in passer rating (112.7) and ranks third in completion percentage (69.9), seventh in touchdown passes (12), and ninth in passing yards per game (279.7).
The Dolphins are 5-0 in games Tagovailoa has started and finished this season.
