Colin Kaepernick offers to pay for lawyers of Minnesota protesters

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback and current activist Colin Kaepernick is kicking his campaign up a notch. The 32-year-old, under his Know Your Rights Camp, is offering to hire lawyers for Minneapolis protesters who were arrested for protesting police brutality, the campaign website states.

Kaepernick isn't the only one sticking up for what is right, either. As a result of George Floyd's death, other athletes, including Joe Burrow, Carson Wentz, LeBron James and many others have spoke out against racial injustice and police brutality in support of Floyd and his family.

Kaepernick also weighed in on the situation Thursday via Instagram.

Actions normally speak louder than words, though, and the protests that have broken out in the Minneapolis area with rioting and looting of stores taking place have resulted in many people being arrested. Multiple Target stores, Wendy's, Apple, Dollar Tree, Walgreens and many other establishments have been completely destroyed amid the protests.

Floyd, an African American man, died Monday after being restrained by police for alleged forgery. An officer put immense pressure on Floyd's neck with his knee as he laid on the ground fighting for his life. A witness' video surfaced showing Floyd begging for his life and even telling the officer he couldn't breathe. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to KMSP-TV's Theo Keith, the officer who killed Floyd, Derek Chauvin, has been taken into custody as of Friday. The officer has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
