Colin Kaepernick's high school life to be featured in new Netflix series

Colin Kaepernick hasn't stepped foot onto a football field in years, yet he's still one of the most talked-about athletes in the world.

As such, Kaepernick's high school years will be examined in a new Netflix series called "Colin in Black & White," Netflix announced Monday.

The series will consist of six episodes and is a project from Kaepernick and Ava DuVernay. While it explores Kaepernick's high school years, it'll examine what led to the activism that he's widely known for today.

Michael Starrbury wrote the series and will offer insight into Kaepernick's life and experiences. There has been no release date for the series yet, though.

Kaepernick hasn't been on an NFL roster since the conclusion of the 2016 campaign, which was the same year he became a target of criticism for kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice.

After his stint with the 49ers came to a close, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL stating he was ousted from the league for his views on the sensitive situation. The two sides eventually reached a settlement.

Kaepernick did attempt a comeback earlier this year with a workout in Atlanta, but it resulted in no offers being sent to the quarterback. His desire to return to the NFL spurs from the racial injustice protests following the death of George Floyd, and Kaepernick likely wants to be a leader in change around the league.
